Devon fa’s walking football league is back!

Helpline are proud sponsors of The Devon Walking Football League.

The Walking Football League was set up in order to provide the physical and mental benefits of exercise to elderly people, or people suffering from an injury, who are looking to keep active and are up for a bit of a challenge too. Walking Football is just your regular kick-about but with one key rule; running is a foul. This ensures that the potentially harmful impact of moving joints and muscles is reduced.

Teams are made up of 5 players and are open to men and women aged 50+. It’s perfect for those who hung their boots up years ago but miss playing the game, or anyone who isn’t quite ready to let go of their competitive streak just yet. The best part? No membership is required. You can just turn up and play as you please! So as well as reintroducing yourself into exercise, it’s a great way to have some fun and meet new friends.

The walking league fixtures are spread across Devon, always taking place on a Sunday. Luckily for us, the first game of the season was played at Cranbrook, near Exeter! We had a great time cheering the teams on from the sidelines and look forward to seeing how the rest of the season’s fixtures unfold!
